Britain told its citizens in Russia to be careful

London - The British government released a new travel appeal for Russia over a case of attempted murder of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal. The UK appealed to its citizens to travel and who were in Russia to be more careful.

The case of the attempted murder of Skripal (66) and his daughter, Yulia (33), who was unconscious after exposure to Novichok's nerve gas, triggered tension between Britain and Russia. Most recently, Britain expelled 23 Russian diplomats after the country was unable to answer questions about nerve gas that made Skripal and his daughter critical.

As reported by Reuters on Thursday (15/3/2018), the Office of the Foreign Ministry of England renewed a trip to Russia on Wednesday (14/3) local time. British Prime Minister Theresa May bluntly calls Russia 'blameworthy' for attacks on Skripal and his daughter.

"Referring to the high political tension between Britain and Russia, you have to be alert to the possibility of anti-British sentiment or abuse at the moment," the travel appeals from the Foreign Office said.

"You are advised to remain vigilant, avoid any protests or demonstrations and avoid public comment on political developments," added the travel appeal.

British police estimate about 10,000 to 20,000 residents will travel to Russia in the summer, or around June, to attend the 2018 World Cup.

In a statement to Britain's parliament on Wednesday, May's PM said it would begin monitoring and tracking suspicious people's intentions and considered threatening activities, which went to Britain.

Not only that, Britain will also poke new legislative rules aimed at countering threats from other countries. "This would include the addition of directed powers to detain those suspected of engaging in malicious activity on the British border," he said.

Related to the 2018 World Cup in Russia in June, PM May insists there will be no high-ranking British officials present. "Confirming there will be no presence of the Minister - or members of the Royal Family - at the World Cup in Russia this summer," he added.
